Kitchener Crane Operator Classes - Crane operator training is for operators and supervisors of overhead lifting machinery. The course is suitable for both current and new operators. Course content includes applicable federal, provincial and state safety regulations. The first component of training consists of comprehensive in-class lessons and test. After that is a hands-on customized session with practical instruction and evaluation.

The content of the course applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting crane devices. The instruction would specifically focus on all aspects of crane operation which can be carried out at the trainee's workplace. Upon completion of the course, trainees will know how to operate particular overhead lifting equipment, attachments and related components in a safe and efficient manner.

The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits that an operator could develop while operating an overhead crane. Costly damage to equipment and products can be avoided with proper practices. Training reduces the chance of a workplace incident or injury happening.

The course will encompass around eight hours of classroom instruction with a couple of hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants would be graded on their understanding of training material through written tests and an assessment of their practical knowledge. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.

The in-class session, the trainee will learn about causes of occurrences and damages, guidelines and legislation, internal responsibility, hazard awareness, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, design principles and basic equipment, pre-shift equipment inspections, safe hoisting/operating techniques, types of hardware, equipment applications/rigging, angles and hitches, pedestrian/operator safety, turning/flipping loads safely, hand signals for slingers and operators.

The customized practical training and evaluation session should be pre-scheduled. It will be held at the trainees' facility following completion of the in-class session. The length of this practical training component is one to two hours. Two operators at a time will be trained by the instructor on skills like correct rigging practices, safe operation and planning the lift.

Upon completion of the in-class instruction and the practical operating instruction and evaluation, the trainee will write a test. Signed safety rules will be required from each and every participant. Individual wallet certificates would be given to successful trainees. A framed wall certificate would be provided to the company.
